How to Dry and Grind Your Truffles?

Some people love eating their magic truffles fresh – and honestly, that works great. But did you know you can also dry and grind them into powder? Super handy if you're microdosing, or if you just want to store them for longer. In this blog, we'll explain why you'd want to dry your truffles, how to do it (with or without a dehydrator or vacuum sealer), and how to store them properly afterwards.

Why dry your truffles?

  • 💊 Easier microdosing: Powder lets you weigh out precise doses and pop them into capsules.

  • 🧳 More travel-friendly: No fridge needed!

  • 🗓️ Longer shelf life: Dried truffles last for months if stored well.

  • 🍵 You can make tea: Much gentler on the stomach.

Step 1: Drying your truffles

Option 1: You’ve got a dehydrator (lucky you!)

  • Cut your truffles into super small pieces – the smaller, the quicker and more evenly they dry.

  • Set your dehydrator to no more than 42°C (higher temps can degrade active compounds).

  • Dry them for 24 to 48 hours, until they’re completely dry and brittle.

Option 2: No dehydrator? No worries!

  • Slice your truffles into thin pieces.

  • Lay them out on baking paper or kitchen towel in a dry spot with good airflow (like by a window or in a cupboard with a fan).

  • Flip them regularly.

  • This can take anywhere from 3 to 7 days depending on the humidity.

🌀 Pro tip: Place some unscented silica gel or dry rice in a sealed container with the truffles to speed up the drying!

Step 2: Grinding your truffles

Once your truffles are bone dry (they should snap when you press them), it’s time to grind.

  • Use a coffee grinder, spice grinder, or blender with a pulse setting.

  • Grind to a fine powder.

  • Let the powder sit out on clean baking paper for 10 minutes to “breathe” and release any last moisture.

Step 3: Storing your truffle powder

Option 1: You have a vacuum sealer

  • Put the powder in a moisture-proof bag and vacuum seal it.

  • Store it in a dark, dry place or in the freezer.

Option 2: No vacuum sealer

  • Use a glass jar with a screw-on lid or a ziplock bag.

  • Add a silica gel packet or some dry rice to absorb moisture.

  • Store it in a cool, dark place (like a cupboard or fridge).

Avoid potency loss

❌ Never store your powder somewhere humid.

❌ Don’t use plastic without extra protection like silica gel.

❌ Keep it away from heat, light, and air – these break down psilocybin over time.

If your powder starts clumping or smells musty, it might no longer be safe or effective.

Whether you're microdosing or just want to extend your stash – now you know exactly how to dry and grind your magic truffles the right way.
